Wine Tasting at Veritas

November 14, 2012

This weekend, we celebrated a friend’s birthday with a wine tasting class at Veritas Wine Bar. The theme was Pinot Noir and tasting the difference between a sparkling Spanish Pinot and a dry Oregon red, was truly interesting (especially for someone who rarely drinks red wine). My favorite: this ruby red 2009 Clark & Telephone was full-bodied, rich and worth savoring.

Hiking at Carderock

November 12, 2012

Highlight of this unseasonably warm weekend? Getting out of the city to hike at Carderock. After a few weeks of cold, wet, grey weather, there was nowhere better to be than outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine.

Sleep

November 9, 2012

This has felt like the longest week ever. I worked 31 hours from 7am Tuesday (Election Day) until 2pm Wednesday, and haven’t quite caught up on that sleep yet. Weekend plans: brunch, wine tasting, a friend’s birthday dinner, more brunch and maybe a couple fun festivals. How about you?

Poste Winter Courtyard

November 8, 2012

Poste launched a Winter Courtyard last week, converting its back patio into a winter wonderland serving cheese and chocolate fondue and seasonal drinks. This Smokin’ Bacon Hot Chocolate — bacon-infused bourbon and a bacon cayenne marshmallow — is worth venturing out into the cold for.

How To Survive Election Night

November 7, 2012

Sandwiches (Taylor Gourmet) + pizza (Fuel) + beer (Sierra Nevada) = fuel for covering an all-night election. How late did you stay up?

Bluegrass Jammin’ At O Mansion

November 5, 2012

It’s going to be a crazy week. So what better way to unwind on a Sunday than a homemade brunch (pumpkin pancakes!) followed by a bluegrass jam at The Mansion on O Street — 15 musicians sitting around a living room, joining together for some great Americana tunes that carry your spirit away on every note. My first time attending and definitely not my last.

Brasserie Beck Brunch

November 1, 2012

Sometimes you just need a really ridiculous breakfast sandwich to start the week off right. This behemoth at Brasserie Beck came piled with Canadian bacon, an egg over-easy and Gruyere. Add some fries and truffle aioli on the side and you’re ready to face another week.
