AFI Silver Theatre: 70mm Spectacular

July 9, 2012

Dark, still and chilled with icy cold air conditioning, movie theatres were made for hot summer days. While mainstream cinemas are packed with filmgoers seeking the latest summer action blockbuster, the AFI Silver Theatre crowd comes for a mix of new indie and foreign releases and restored classics. I saw one of those classics yesterday, Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, as part of the theatre’s 70mm Spectacular; seeing Hitchcock on the big screen is such a difference from seeing his films on DVD (which makes Screen on the Green‘s August 6 screening of Psycho so thrilling).

Next up at AFI: Totally Awesome ’80s, which includes some favorites I’d love to see on the big screen (Tootsie! E.T.!).
