Weekend Wrap-Up

April 9, 2012

Did the Easter Bunny stop by this weekend? It was certainly one of the most gorgeous Easters I can remember.

Blue skies, sunshine, a breeze — normally I insist on wearing a sundress on Easter no matter what the temperature, even when that means bundling under a winter coat and scarves. This year: no coat needed.

It was almost warm enough to pretend we were in New Orleans as my family headed over to Acadiana for post-church Easter brunch. The Easter menu was their standard three-course, prix fixe fare, along with $1 mimosas and Cajun Marys, and everything sounded delicious, although my one complaint was that everything on the menu was heavy (like no-need-to-eat-again-for-the-rest-of-the-day heavy). If we’re going into three courses and a midday dessert, let’s offer up a salad! (Okay, actually I have one more complaint: the service was terrible. Like seriously bad, especially for a fairly easy-going table of three. What gives?)

On my plate: charbroiled oysters (garlic butter, parmesan romano cheese, warm french bread) and blackened tilapia (sweet corn pudding, collard greens with bacon baby vegetables, crawfish lemon tabasco butter).

The highlight of the meal: French market beignets with chicory coffee crème anglaise.

Soft, pillowy, sweet — but after the previous two huge courses, I could only eat one (along with generous bites of the table’s other desserts: pecan tart w/ praline caramel, milk chocolate ice cream; bananas foster bread pudding w/ rum anglaise, cane syrup caramel popcorn, praline crunch ice cream).

After brunch, I was ready to sink into a food coma but on holidays, there’s no rest for the weary. We went right to another family Easter celebration where there was more food (tres leche cake!), a few hours of Masters-watching and some quality time with my 6-month-old cousin.

So that was my Easter Sunday — how did you spend the beautiful spring weekend?

The weather on Easter was absolutely beautiful! We took a long walk around the lake 🙂
