Weekend Wrap-Up

March 19, 2012

Did you overindulge this St. Patrick’s Day weekend?

(seen at Baked & Wired)

I certainly did. Not in ^^ that ^^ sense, but just in eating basically everything in sight. It was a friend’s birthday weekend… and St. Patrick’s Day… and spring… and…!

Thankfully, the incredible weather allowed me to spend plenty of time outside working it off. I can’t get enough of this.

Magnolias and cherry blossoms blooming, sun shining, birds singing, sundress wearing… this was the perfect spring weekend.(Even though it’s technically winter until tomorrow — minor detail.)

Celebrating a good friend’s birthday is the best way to start a weekend. Allie kicked off rooftop season with grilled pizza, homemade espresso-and-chocolate cupcakes and Estadio-inspired sangria. Since I haven’t been to Estadio yet, I can’t compare, but this homemade drink was pretty great. Especially with a cupcake.

The eating fest continued Saturday. No corned beef and cabbage for this Irish lass — I was all about Lia’s pizza and salad.

Worth visiting if you’re shopping in Friendship Heights. A friend and I split a salad (fattoush salad, feta, olive, flatbread) and pizza (goat cheese, mozzarella, feta, sweet onion, garlic confit) — both were fresh-tasting, perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. Bonus points for a huge outdoor patio.

Sunday’s big meal deserves its own blog post so a brunch review will replace Tuesday’s regular Great Coffee Shop Hunt post — here’s your clue:

Pretty obvious, right? (Especially if you follow me on Twitter.)

This weekend wasn’t all stuffing my face. I did some shopping for upcoming wedding season — 4 so far on the calendar. My rationale is that none of the same people will be at each wedding, so I can safely rotate between a couple of dresses. Right?

On a less shallow note…

My adorable cousin Grace was baptized this weekend and I was so happy to be there to celebrate with her mom and our entire family.

Isn’t she a cutie?

Yea, she’s a keeper. I’m lucky to have so much family close by and having a baby in the family definitely makes holidays fun again!

I’m en route to New York for a few days, then back in DC just in time to hop on a plane to Chicago. More good food to come! (Anyone have favorite spots in the East Village? I’m always looking for new places to try.)

Great looking weekend! I didn’t over-indulge too much either for St. Patty’s Day but I did have a great weekend and I am totally loving the beautiful weather we’ve been having lately 😀
