Thankful Thursday

March 15, 2012

People always complain that DC doesn’t really get a spring, just a few days of cool rain before summer humidity rolls in.

This year: they’re wrong. Spring has sprung in full force, with temperatures in the mid-70s (okay, mid-80s today), magnolias in bloom, birds chirping, sun shining…

I love this season.

We’ve reached the time of year when it’s too gorgeous to spend more time that necessary inside. When you look forward to your morning walk to work because it coincides with the golden sun rising over the city. When a quick midday trip to Starbucks turns into a walk around the block just because. When you I get home post-work, post-gym, throw down my bags and immediately head outside for another walk because it’s just too nice to sit on the couch.

Of course, there’s more than the weather to be thankful for: I’m thankful I get to enjoy the weather and the millions of other blessings, large and small, in my life. Ericka reminded me of this when she blogged, then emailed, about a Back on My Feet fundraiser she’s planning. Back on My Feet connects homeless citizens with members of the community to build self-sufficiency and self-empowerment through running.

While I’m not a runner, I believe that any methods of bringing together the community and humanizing the homeless (no, this doesn’t mean using them as 4G hotspots) has value and should be encouraged. If you agree and live in the DC area, consider attending BoMF’s Blue & Green Birthday Bash — all proceeds benefit Back on My Feet’s mission to help the homeless.

Over the next two weeks, I’ll be in Chicago and New York (twice). Can their spring compete with DC? Unlikely.

I am LOVING the warm weather we’ve been having! I just wonder if it’s 80+ degrees in March, how hot will it be in July?!
