Thankful Thursday

December 22, 2011

Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year when the sun sets at its earliest time (4:49pm). It’s also my first day of vacation for the holidays and a 61-degree day here in the Nation’s Capital.

I barely have 8 hours left to enjoy daylight — although my big relaxation plans for the day are to go to the gym, buy groceries at Trader Joe’s and drink buckets of coffee while reading — before heading with a friend down to the National Christmas Tree and National Menorah on the Mall during the longest night of the year.

This week, I’m thankful for:

  • Living near my family – no long plane, train or car trips and no battling hordes of fellow travelers
  • New friends to celebrate the holidays with
  • Old friends who like to share their holiday traditions and help create new ones
  • World Market pecan pie coffee
  • Office parties that are actually fun – having awesome coworkers helps!
  • Loose-fitting dresses
  • Unseasonably warm weather
  • Christmas lights
  • Finishing my Christmas shopping early

Are you traveling for the holidays? Where? Stay safe and have fun!
