Great Coffee Shop Hunt: Soho Tea & Coffee

December 7, 2011

Even though the point of this whole Great Coffee Shop Hunt is to discover awesome coffeehouses in other neighborhoods, my own neighborhood coffee shop is pretty fantastic — and hasn’t been featured on the blog yet.

Welcome to Soho Tea & Coffee.

There are a lot of coffeehouses in Dupont Circle — ranging from Starbucks to tiny mom-and-pop places — and Soho is nearest my house. It has the perfect neighborhood vibe — relaxing music, super-friendly employees, free WiFi, tons of tables (some of which have their own reading lamps), and no hassles if you want to sit and read or work for a few hours.

The food and drink menu is pretty extensive for a corner coffee shop, too. All of the food is incredibly fresh — I’ve enjoyed egg-on-croissant sandwiches a few times before — but on this latest visit, I tried something new: the Soho Mocha (blackberry syrup, steamed milk with Ghirardelli chocolate, espresso and whipped cream).

New favorite! The blackberry flavor really came through, and the drink was sweet enough to fill my afternoon sugar cravings. I also love these glass mugs — eco-friendly and adorable.

I enjoyed my mocha while listening to classical music and reading this book. <– I’ve never been to the Getty but the book is a great piece of investigative journalism!

As much as I’m trying to explore other neighborhoods and see what they have to offer, I realize I’m lucky to have such a great coffeehouse in my backyard. It certainly comes in handy on all those cold, grey days Mother Nature has planned….

What are you reading these days?

I was out of town this past weekend and totally thought of your Great Coffee Shop Hunt when I found this adorable coffee shop that sold everything from banana smoothies to frozen hot chocolate. It was a place I could just picture as a feature on your blog!

I also really like that coffee shop. There is plenty of seating. They played nice music when I was there last and the coffee (I just had a regular) was good!
