Thankful Thursday

October 20, 2011

With all of the events going on in the world today — Gaddafi captured and/or killed, an unemployment epidemic among the young, even a herpes monkey on the loose — it’s even more important to be thankful for the little things.

My cousin had a healthy baby girl last Friday. Grace Elizabeth is gorgeous and I can’t wait to meet my new (and first!) second cousin. Most of our family lives in the area so Grace will be lucky to grow up surrounded by people who love her — and my cousin will be thankful for free babysitters. 😉

Getting out of the city and into the West Virginia country last weekend was a much needed breath of fresh air. It’s so important that even as life gets busy, we take the chance to stop and not let ourselves be overwhelmed. This was the perfect way to do it.

What else is there to be thankful for this week?

  • Day trip tomorrow with my dad to Monticello — I went there last year at this same time of year and loved how it looked amid the fall leaves.
  • An overabundance of CSA apples — apple pie? Apple crumble? Apple cake?
  • A new work schedule that includes no weekend shift and a relatively normal 8:30-6ish workday.
  • Saturday is the annual Great Day of Service at my church — looking forward to making new friends and helping fellow Washingtonians
  • Finding my favorite-so-far coffee shop in DC
  • Planning travel
  • Finding time to actually read — I’m racing through The Night Circus
  • Getting real mail — nothing brightens your day like a real letter or postcard

What are you thankful for this week?

You’re the second person I’ve heard mention THE NIGHT CIRCUS. What’s it about?

Congratulations to your cousin and the whole family!

I heard it described as ‘Harry Potter for adults’ — similar concepts but written in such a compelling, page-turning fashion. I’m nearly done and have enjoyed every page.
