Pizza Paradiso: Pizza Pie Paradise

October 11, 2011

I have a confession to make: I’ve been lazy lately… when it comes to dinner. Since one of my unofficial “food rules” — okay, so they’re not quite Pollan-esque, but they work for me — is to only eat out when it’s a social occasion, I’ve been coercing my friends into enabling my lazy ways, going out for dinner more times than I’ve cooked at home in recent weeks. It’s bad.

While I resolved to turn over a new leaf this week — I miss eating homecooked meals, even if it’s just eggs and toast — I’ve had some great dinners lately. Case in point: neighborhood favorite Pizza Paradiso.

I’ve lived just blocks away for months now and still hadn’t been in. Now I know what I was missing!

Fantastic happy hour specials including $3 drafts (hello, pumpkin ale!):

Big, yummy, interesting salads — more than just boring Caesar:

And an extensive pizza menu. There were so many kinds of choose from that I was thankful to be dining with a big group so we could try three different pizza pies.

The Bosco (Tomato, Mushrooms, Spinach, Red Onion, Mozzarella):

The Atomica (Tomato, Salami, Black Olives, Hot Pepper Flakes, Mozzarella):

The Siciliana (Tomato, Zucchini, Eggplant, Sweet Peppers, Red Onion, Capers, Garlic, Oregano, Mozzarella, Pecorino)

What a feast!

It was fun — and delicious — while it lasted but I’m happy to be back in my normal routine, eating at home before going out to meet up with friends.

How many nights a week do you eat dinner out

You chose wisely – first, by going to Paradiso, and second, by choosing both the atomica and the siciliana, which are two of their best pizzas.

The siciliana is one of my favorites. Forgot it’s pumpkin ale time too! Thanks to work and a bad cold, we haven’t been in a few weeks, but we spend a good bit of time there. Easily one of my favorite neighborhood places.

We’re constantly on the “austerity plan” so our eating out consists of going to Five Guys. Also it’s hard to get a baby sitter! We also love to save up for really good restaurants. I would love to eat out more, though. I love Ted’s Bulletin on Barracks Row and Granville Moore’s on H Street. 😉

I’ve heard great things about Ted’s Bulletin but haven’t been — on the list!

I go out probably twice a week, sometimes three times. I know, it’s a lot. It’s just sort of how my friends socialize.
