Take a Bite Out of Breast Cancer at Hudson!

September 28, 2011

Do you love to eat? Love to drink? Love to support a good cause?

Then join me and other local bloggers this Saturday night, October 1, at Hudson Restaurant and Lounge in Dupont Circle to Take a Bite out of Breast Cancer.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and DC-area chefs and restauranteurs are helping out by committing a portion of their sales toward breast cancer research, treatment and awareness. Some restaurants are participating for the entire month, others only on select nights.

Take a Bite Out of Breast Cancer supports Pink Jams!, a DC nonprofit promoting breast cancer awareness to young men and women. More than a dozen restaurants are participating, including neighborhood favorites Luna Grill & Diner, Tonic and Hank’s Oyster Bar. Check out the PinkJams! website for a full listing of participating restaurants and dates.

I’m excited to partner with Hudson Restaurant & Lounge for this event. Hudson is generously donating 35 percent of the proceeds from dinner toward Pink Jams! on October 1.

Did you know that Washington, DC has the highest breast cancer death rate for women in the United States? Many of those deaths are due to late diagnosis, and could have possibly been avoided through early detection and an understanding of risk factors. Pink Jams! reaches out to men and women under the age of 40 to promote breast cancer awareness by combining this important message with fashion, art, social events, live music and now dining! Pink Jams! was founded in 2009, after the loss of a 35-year-old friend by Christa Floresca, a DC-area native.

As an ambassador, I’ll be at Hudson Restaurant & Lounge for dinner this Saturday, October 1. Will you join me? Bring a date, bring your friends, bring your family. The menu looks delicious — I have my eye on the Veg Out Flatbread with grilled squash, zucchini, red onions, mushrooms, spinach, roasted red peppers, provolone — and more importantly, money spent on your night out goes toward a great cause right here in Washington.

Thanks for your comment! I’m happy to help in any way I can and this just requires me to eat a delicious meal — the restaurant is really taking the lead, which I love.
