Thankful Thursday

August 11, 2011

Last night, I took a mental health night. I canceled plans, cooked a real dinner (this eggplant dip + chickpeas + homemade bread) and watched mindless TV. Sometimes, I just need a break from a busy schedule, even when that schedule is filled with only fun things. The next unbooked evening I have: August 22.

But today, all I can be is thankful. Thankful to have so many friends nearby, thankful to live just a few miles from my family, thankful to have too much to do and not be lonely or bored.

Next week is the Healthy Living Summit — are you going? I’m so excited to meet up with friends new and old in Philadelphia — and to find a contender in my new Great Coffee Shop Hunt. My friend Shari will join me for the journey and I can’t wait to see her for the first time in six years.

Perfect summer weather has also come to Washington just in time for the weekend — mid-80s and sunny, with low humidity. My sister and I are taking advantage of the weather Saturday by having an outdoor adventure. Hiking, kayaking, paddle-boarding — any DC/MD/VA readers have suggestions for little-known places nearby to enjoy the great outdoors?

What else am I thankful for this week?

What are you thankful for this week? Do you keep a crazy schedule or play it by ear?

    Commenting in bullet form today:

    * Homemade bread sounds DELICIOUS!
    * The weather is beautiful here, too – sunny, low humidity, and 82 degrees today. Pretty sure that equals perfection.
    * I love how active and involved you are, always immersing yourself in so many activities. Everyone should live that way.
    * Most importantly: I am so, so excited to see you!! It’s crazy to think we’ve known each other for six years. Time seriously does fly. Looking forward to finally spending time together in person next week 🙂
