Thankful Thursday

June 30, 2011

New York this week, Nicaragua next — this ex-nomad is on the move! Never mind that I don’t have any travel plans after July, never mind that my trip to Nicaragua is more work than play — I’m just thankful to break my passport out of the closet and hit the road again.

I had a great trip to New York — did you miss my adventures eating my way through the Big Apple and breakfasting New York? It’s always nice to get out of town for a couple of days and even though I was working most of the trip, I was able to see friends, eat lots of good food and have fun.

I’m thankful, however, to get back to my kitchen. I ate out 3 meals a day for 3 days and while I ate pretty healthfully — and deliciously! — there are CSA veggies in the fridge and a desperate need for a break from carbs. It was fun to eat out for lunch every day, though, instead of packing daily leftovers.

During the train ride home last night, I spent some time tweaking Travel Eat Repeat. If you read my blog in your Reader or via e-mail, come check out the changes, including a new header, sharing buttons and a few other new features. I still want a total header redesign but I like this one better for now.

Also check out this fun new widget from the Healthy Living Summit:

I was so thankful to be invited to speak at August’s Healthy Living Summit, where Victoria and I will talk about staying healthy while traveling. We’re both excited about this opportunity and I’m looking forward to meeting more fun bloggers. Jess and I recently booked our hotel and bus tickets, so we’re ready to go!

Other things I’m thankful for this week:

  • Lower humidity. Being able to wear my hair down instead of a sweaty ponytail.
  • A pint of big, juicy, fresh cherries begging to be eaten.
  • A very random grocery list: Chobani, almond milk, minced garlic and barley. Yum?
  • Switching back to Bare Escentuals make-up.
  • The start of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival — it’s festival season in Washington!

Are you coming to the Healthy Living Summit? What are you thankful for this week?

I’ll be at the HLS! Can’t wait to hear you speak! This week, I am thankful that I got to spend some time with my mom. Nothing beats a little mother/daughter time. 🙂

I wanted to go to the HLS but we’re going to Florida, MD and Vegas all in the next two months so I couldn’t really justify spending the $$.
