Thankful Thursday

June 9, 2011

The top thing I’m thankful for as I sit down this morning to blog? The internet. It took a week to receive a Comcast internet self-installation kit and approximately 10 minutes between seeing the box on my doorstep and getting online. Word of advice: if you sign up for Comcast internet and they insist that you “have to” to pay for a technician to come install it, ask to speak to a supervisor. I’m a pretty laid-back, easy-going person but I wasn’t going to give Comcast any extra money to perform a task that took me less than 5 minutes.

Let’s stop dwelling on Comcast and move on to nicer things.

Unless you’re living in Anchorage (high today: 67°), Milwaukee (57°) or Portland (62°) — and can we discuss how Anchorage is the warmest of those three cities?! — it’s likely hot where you live. We’re having a record heat wave here in Washington and I am so thankful to have working central air. Last week, thousands of Washingtonians lost power for days and no power = no electricity. That’s not including the people in homes without A/C and during these hot, humid early summer days, opening the windows does nothing.

The other big thing I’m thankful for? Being moved into my new apartment! All of the boxes and bins are unpacked, the kitchen is organized and I put a cheerful tablecloth on the kitchen table. There’s still a lot of organization and decoration ahead — I’ll be at IKEA bright and early Saturday — but I can see this space slowly coming together and I’m filled with ideas to make my small studio a home.

What else am I thankful for this week?

  • A commute that takes 15 minutes door-to-door, with my two feet the only mode of transportation. Remember my 3+ hour round-trip commute just a few months ago? Such a quality of life difference!
  • Fro yo on a hot night
  • Meeting my Nicaragua volunteer group tonight. Can’t wait to get some more details!
  • SPF 50 sunscreen. Is it true that anything above SPF 30 doesn’t make a difference?
  • Cheap photo prints from CVS. I can’t wait to see my photos on the walls. I just love the colors in this one (from a visit to Seoul Forest):

What are you thankful for this week?

A getaway from this manically hot city and eating a lot of junk food and seafood. Plus, enjoy sun, sand, and salt water. I am sad I will miss this IKEA trip though!

I too am thankful for frozen yogurt! I had some last night and it was the perfect end to a crazy hot day!

I wish I could walk to work. I’d love that! Love the colors in your photo! I’m thankful that I get to go to my first trampoline park today. 🙂 Expanding the fitness horizons…lol

Getting to make theatre (what I love) every day. So few people can say they do what they love everyday!
