My Restaurant Bucket List

May 13, 2011

1. Chez Panisse – the quintessential foodie paradise, Alice Waters’ California restaurant is known for its fresh, local food. Who’s ready to start planning a trip to NoCal?

2. Moosewood Restaurant – when I first embraced vegetarian cooking, this Ithaca, New York, eatery’s Simple Suppers became by bible.

3. Noma – Denmark isn’t usually synonymous with good food but this Copenhagen concept restaurant was just named the best restaurant in the world for the second year in a row.

4. Angelina – check this one off the list! Hot chocolate at Angelina was on my must-do list since seeing Samantha Brown dine here on Passport to Europe. While in Paris in December 2006, I got the chance to enjoy a famous mug of Angelina’s African hot chocolate.

5. minibar – right here in DC! Jose Andres’ latest invention mixes food and art for a tasting menu of 30+ small courses.

and my ultimate restaurant-vacation destination:

6. Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge – this isn’t on the list as much for the food — though I like what little Peruvian food I’ve had — but for the view from the table:

What restaurants are on your food bucket list? I also love Jane and Michael Stern’s Roadfood series highlighting the best American cuisine found all over the country. It doesn’t have to be fancy to be good!

I *definitely* want to get to minibar, too. It’s right in town – a shame to not get to it at some point. I also want to get to Citronelle right here in DC, since I adore Central and Citronelle is supposed to be even better.

I need to start keeping a list of DC restaurants to try…

If you went to Minibar, would you give up being a vegetarian for the meal?

Yes. Tom Sietsema says if you go, you have to be willing to try anything or you’ll miss out on the intended experience. They *can* customize for food preferences/allergies though.

        Good!! I would, too.
