Cloudy Day At Carderock

March 6, 2011

Before the rain come the clouds.

Living in this area is amazing because in 10 minutes, I can be in the heart of Washington or the middle of the woods. Pretty cool to have the best of both worlds. One of my favorite places for hiking is the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Park— hop on the trail at Carderock, which has miles of trails that run both along the canal and the Potomac River.

Despite the clouds and imminent rain, there were lots of people out and about kayaking, fishing, running, biking, rock climbing and hiking. No one wanted to be stuck indoors on one of the first spring-like days of the year!

There are some truly incredible homes in this area. Can you imagine living right on the banks of the Potomac River and having a view like this house, which looks from Virginia into Maryland? Check out those stairs!

Not bad! 😉

As a city girl, I was excited by any signs of wildlife, even ducks and evidence of woodpeckers. It doesn’t take much. 😉

Lexie came along for the hike and loved it, as usual. She loves to run ahead on the path, then look back to be sure we’re following. It’s nice to know she’d never run away. That dog knows where her food comes from!

Millie the cat couldn’t come on the hike. She took advantage of the nice weather by sitting out in the garden with St. Francis, the patron saint of animals.

She’s on high alert for sneak attacks by Lexie. Lexie wants to be friends, Millie just wants some peace. Poor cat.

How did you spend your weekend? Is it raining?

Oh how I love the rain on a Sunday morning. Here in southern California we rarely get those days were you don’t feel bad for staying in and watching movies. Though those trails look like quite the adventure! I am just relaxing and renovating the house this weekend. =)
