Tag, You’re It!

January 14, 2011

Good morning! It’s a long weekend — do you have any fun plans? I didn’t realize MLK Day was this Monday until someone mentioned it earlier this week.

The desire to cook seems to swing on such a pendulum for me. Some weeks, I’m gung-ho about getting into the kitchen every night and whipping up something delicious. Other weeks (such as the entire month of January so far), I make whatever is easiest. I don’t think the oven has even been turned on since Christmas! Last night, I got home from the gym and was craving nothing, so poured a big bowl of cereal, yogurt and raisins and called it a night. Simplicity works.

Simplicity also works when it comes to overnight oats. No mess involved and only one dish to clean — perfect!

What is a boysenberry? I’ve eaten boysenberry-flavored foods — like this Yoplait yogurt — but never seen an actual boysenberry. It looks like a blackberry or raspberry on the package, though.

Random discovery I made about Yoplait: the ‘lite’ yogurt lists high fructore corn syrup as one of its main ingredients, while the ‘original’ version doesn’t. I realized this after putting a dozen ‘lite’ Yoplait yogurt cups into my cart only to switch them all out for regular when I read the ingredient list.

Always read the ingredient list first. I’ll take 100 extra calories for not putting HFCS in my body, thankyouverymuch.

Allie tagged me in a survery going around blog-land so I thought I’d fill that out while eating breakfast, then tag a few new people at the bottom.

There are berry bushes around my parents’ house, and for years we thought we were picking boysenberries…but I think we finally determined that they’re actually blackberries. So I don’t know if I’ve ever actually seen a boysenberry either, but apparently they are indeed very similar to blackberries.

I’ve been feeling humdrum in the kitchen too lately. I blame January!

“Sometimes the only person you can depend on is yourself — and your parents.” Ah, yes sometimes this is so darn true!

Love all your facts… big fan of Modern Family myself!

Totally agree–tights and boots are the best thing about winter.

Weird about the Yoplait! I’m a huge fan of plain full-fat Greek yogurt though because I love adding my own sweetener and fruits. Mmmmm… and I haven’t had overnight oats in too too long. Thanks for tagging me! Lol’d at the Mandy Moore Scrubs reference… and I say that all the time, too.

Ahhh! There’s a similar phrase I’ve come to love and it’s “Everything in moderation and moderation in moderation”. Basically usually live in moderation and then sometimes, go a lil crazy! Love it 🙂
