Girls’ Night In

December 18, 2010

Morning friends! Did you have a good Friday night? I had a good old-fashioned sleepover with one of my best friends from high school.

Just like a high school sleepover, pizza was on the menu. Who needs Domino’s when you have homemade?! So much better! I piled my half with sauce, cheese, zucchini, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes.

Into the oven it goes:

And 10 minutes later:

You know what goes perfectly with pizza? Wine. I love all of the wines from Cupcake Vineyard and this was no exception.

Dinner is served!

We used the premade Boboli crust instead of Trader Joe’s dough and I really liked its taste and texture.

Dinner was great but once that was done, it was time to move on to the most important part of any meal: dessert. We jumped head-first into the holiday spirit but making Christmas sugar cookies. Megan pre-prepared the dough because she’s a good friend so it was ready to roll out and start cutting by the time dinner was done.

Sugary snowmen, stars, stockings and gingerbread men — are they still called gingerbread men if they are formed into sugar cookies? — filled the pan.

While the cookies spent some time in the oven, we made a simple icing with powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Food coloring created fun holiday hues.

What, you don’t have lime green in your holiday box of Crayolas? 😉

The cookies came hot out of the oven and we immediately set to work transforming boring beige biscuits…

… into a multicolored collection of Christmas-y cookies!

Yes, you may see a lot of gourmet cookies on the blog, cookies that look like they could grace the cover of Martha Stewart’s magazine but these cookies are covered in love — and a lot of colorful homemade icing. 😉

No girls’ night in would be complete without a chick flick and we picked a classic: ‘Dirty Dancing.’

Does it get any better?

I was planning to go to the gym this morning but forgot my sneakers — oops! — so instead it’s me, the couch and a mug of coffee the size of my head. Perfect Saturday, eh? Heading to a Christmas concert at the Kennedy Center tonight with my family.

See you later! 😀

What’s your favorite chick flick? ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ is my all-time favorite!

That looks like so much fun 🙂 I think I need to organize a girls night like this sometime soon- looks a lot more fun than my way too crazy Friday night!

I didn’t realize you were a Cupcake Vineyards fan. Totally my fave!! (And it has nothing to do with the fun name 🙂 )

Sounds like a perfect night to me. I like Cupcake wine too. I’ll admit,I bought it for the name first, but ended up liking it. My method of wine buying, based on a cute name or label, is always a gamble!

Sleepovers are so much fun, also very rare too.

    Cute cookies 🙂

Awwww girls night! So fun. Those cookies and that pizza look delicious. I think my favorite chick flick would have to be Say Anything or Sex and the City – both remind me of my friends growing up!

Both the pizza and the cookies looked pretty amazing 😀

Good for you for having a girl’s night! I dream of those, but with my high school best friends in Atlanta and D.C., it doesn’t happen too often. Once a year if we’re lucky! My favorite chick flick would have to be The Notebook. I cry every time it’s on!

Ah that looks like fun! Those cookies are giving me a serious craving– I have a problem. I’d say my favorite chick flick is PS I Love You… I could watch that movie anytime.
