How I Live Guilt-Free: Morning

Hi! Can you see me waving to you from inside my igloo? That’s what it feels like here in DC. Brrrrr! My philosophy is that if it’s going to be this cold, at least let it snow!

Yesterday morning when I walked out to my car, there was a tiny dusting of snow covering the ground. It wasn’t even enough to form a snowball but I was still pretty psyched. Let it snow!

So now that we’ve talked about getting over guilt — ’tis the season, right? — let’s talk about how to do that. (Note: this post was originally called How To Live Guilt-Free but I changed it because what works for one person doesn’t work for everyone, right? These tips are what make me happy.)

We’re all sick of hearing about how breakfast is the most important meal of the day but… it is.

Healthy living bloggers love oatmeal for a reason: it fills you up, tastes great, adapts to a million flavor combinations and is really good for you. Special breakfasts come and go — love French toast and spiced pancakes with pumpkin butter — but oatmeal is the day-to-day staple.

Adding a spoonful of peanut butter helps pump up the healthy fat content and gives a big boost of protein. People always think it’s strange to add peanut butter to oats until they try it and suddenly, the PB-in-oats club has a new member. Mmm… I wish that was a real club.

I recently switched things up and bought a jar of Crazy Richard’s.

Seriously, it’s awesome. Crazy Richard’s may have officially (yes ‘officially,’ I take peanut butter very seriously) replaced Trader Joe’s PB as my favorite because this stuff is so creamy.

I also like to start the morning with coffee. Fact: I was never a daily coffee drinker until last year. Now, I don’t feel like I need a fix but it’s a nice part of the morning routine. Lately I’ve been drinking Trader Joe’s seasonal peppermint roast.

    Man– I tried that PB, but I never could get it to stir right! It looks DELISH in your oats!

    My philosophy is that if it’s going to be this cold, at least let it snow!

    ^ Could NOT agree more. We can skip the crazy storms from last winter, but if there are wind chills in the single digits, the least Mother Nature can do is give us some fluffy snow to go with it 🙂

    I start everyday with oats with pb and banana! my boyfriend thinks i’m crazy about the peanut butter, so i enjoyed your comment:)
