Children of the corn

October 22, 2010

Corn, corn, corn, as far as the eye can see. We spent an hour wandering around The Maize at Temple Hall Farm yesterday for our team offsite and the Children of the Corn/Field of Dreams references were endless.

Also endless were people saying, ‘Wow, it’s gorgeous out here.’

Then again, that person was usually me. You know I love a good trip to the country and an afternoon out of the office. 😉

Plus with so many gourds and pumpkins lying around, I couldn’t help but start dreaming of dinner possibilities. That’s just how my mind works!

Mostly, though, I just sat back and enjoyed the pleasure of being outdoors under the sun instead of inside under fluorescent lighting.

Part of the reason you go to a farm is for the wildlife, right? Meet the turkeys with the luckiest lives ever:

They seemed kind of disturbed that some people were eating turkey sandwiches so close by…

Also say hi to this cat, who pretty much has an awesome existence: walk around the farm, get petted and fed by hundreds of people every day, and take naps in the sun.

Wouldn’t that be a nice way to live?! 😀

Once lunch was over and we’d done a little brainstorming — have to keep the creative juices flowing! — it was time to head into the corn maze. Temple Hall Farm’s maze is called The Maize and is huge.

It was a day of firsts because after the corn maze — okay, that wasn’t a first, but it was the biggest I’ve ever visited — we went paintballing. No, not shooting at coworkers! They set up targets like pots & pans, aluminum animals and rusty wheels for us to shoot. It was my first time firing a gun of any kind and my first time paintballing.

Off to the pumpkin patch to find The Great Pumpkin.

Well it turns out that all the Great pumpkins were gone, but I did find a few cute little ones.

So fun! Getting out of the office definitely helps refresh the mind. Coming home with a baby pumpkin? Totally a bonus! 😀

I’m puppy-sitting for my dad this weekend so adventures with me and Lexie are coming up. 🙂

What are your weekend plans?
