An Omelet at Open City

August 9, 2010

You can’t go wrong with a good omelet. Even if the table is blowing away in front of you…

Let’s backtrack.

Simone, Allie and I met up at Open City for a Sunday brunch. It was a gorgeous day, cloudy but not humid, so we sat outside on the patio.

There were plenty of tempting menu items — I had a really hard time deciding against chai waffles — but I finally settled on a good ole vegetarian omelet. To make up for that, I had to order a nice big chai.

We each got a different chai drink. Love all the choices! Chaippuccino , chai latte, frozen chai.

Allie had just come back from Argentina. Welcome home!

And Simone was pretty psyched about her frozen drink, even as the wind started picking up and tiny raindrops began falling.

Suddenly… rain! It went from cloudy and breezy to torrential downpour. Thankfully, we were able to grab a table inside. I was pretty happy to get back to my nice hot drink. ๐Ÿ™‚

Aren’t those mugs great? Huge!

Finally, the food came. A packed vegetarian omelet with delicious hash browns and toast.

Look at all the veggies!

Too good! Open City serves breakfast all day so it’s a winner day or night. Next time, I need to order a pastry. The huge glass pastry bar was calling my name. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What’s your favorite coffeeshop order? I usually go with a simple cafe au lait but if I’m going to branch out, it’s mostly chai.

Awesome looking omelette! I never get a chance to go to a restaurant for breakfast.

I’m a big fan of ordering cafe au laits. They’re normally half the price of some of the snazzier drinks and taste just as good.

I’ve started ordering cafe au lait (or misto, as Starbucks likes to call it) because you’re right — half the price and just as good! ๐Ÿ˜€

Cafe au Lait, as I have always known it, is a no foam latte. 1/3 espresso + 2/3 steamed milk

I wikipedia’d it though and apparently there are lots of variations of cafe au lait. Misto being one of them.

Have you ever been to New Orleans? Apparently they make a cafe au lait with milk and chicory making it more bitter.

That’s my fact of the day.

I love coffee shops, in summer I order iced lattes and in winter flavoured lattes ๐Ÿ˜€

I almost always opt for an omelet when eating breakfast/brunch at a restaurant. Not impossible but harder for them to mess it up I find.

Does your veggie omelet have broccoli in it? Yummy!

Yep, broccoli, mushrooms, peppers — can’t remember what else. ๐Ÿ˜‰
