Signs of the neighborhood

July 14, 2010

The weather has been so crazy today! It was bright sunshine when I got in the car, got progressively cloudier as I drove over the bridge from Virginia to Maryland, then started monsooning the second I pulled into Bethesda!

And now, it’s shining beautifully again!

Cray-zay!

I’ve been taking a lot of walking lately since it’s just too hot to do anything else outside and it’s a low-impact, low-effort way to get in some exercise.

One sign I walk by frequently perfectly sums up my neighborhood:

That’s right: Stop Affluenza. That pretty much sums up where I live and what some people think about it — but I love it here! 😉

Then there’s the good ol’ defacing of a pedestrian crossing sign. I’ve seen some crazy art but this is my current fave:

Hula-hoop crossing? (Someone else thought it was a surf board — anyone?)

Like I’ve said before, there are lots of good — no, make that great — restaurants in this area and new ones pop up all the time. We’re apparently getting a new Jewish deli down the street:

Mmmm… Last year, Melissa whipped up delicious matzoh ball soup in our tiny Korea apartments for Passover and I’ve already informed Brittany that making some (and sharing with me, natch) is a requirement. 😉

Have you seen any good signs lately? None of these can begin to compare with the crazy/hilarious signs I found in Australia!

Haha I love the hula-hooping sign. We have one in my neighborhood that is a stop sign and now says “STOP — Hammertime” I love it! I smile everytime I walk/drive by. Maybe I need to get a picture before it’s gone!

The weather here in DC is crazy! I can’t believe how much it was raining yesterday…but I do love your city Erin…wish I could stay here permanently.

I’ve been walking around here a lot too! I have to say I love the humidity, just not the sun!

I’m on team hula hoop. And the Stop Affluenza is pretty hilarious, even if the person who posted it there meant it seriously.
