Fun in the sky at Lounge 7

May 15, 2009

The neighborhood I live in, Suyu, isn’t one of Seoul’s most attractive or exciting. It’s largely residential, with a small (by Seoul’s standards) downtown area filled with bars and restaurants. When we go out for drinks in Suyu, there are usually a couple of bars we stick to with little variation.

Last night, Chloe recommended a place called Lounge 7. Located right off Electric Alley — the street is a luminescent collection of PC bangs, galbi restaurants and boutiques — this laid-back bar is on the seventh floor of a high-rise. This provides a nice view of the mountains and surrounding area. The buildings are much shorter (smaller?) in Suyu than the rest of Seoul so while seven floors isn’t a lot, it’s about average height for buildings here.
It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the warm spring air without being annoyed by overly-loud music and a smoky atmosphere. The lounge played an eclectic mix of American music ranging from Beyonce to Taylor Swift to 98 Degrees. Felt a little like home.
There was also a great group. What started as a small gathering with Chloe and our friend Rachel (who recently quit SEV), grew into a good-sized group of interesting people and conversation. It was the perfect way to unwind after work.
My Korean coworkers are constantly wanting to learn more English but only the slang, naturally. Peter, who almost never even speaks at work, surprised us with his favorite English expressions: “Hey b*tch, shake that ass,” “Hey baby, you’re looking good” and, most worryingly, “What’s up, my n*gga?”
Yep, Koreans are definitely good students. They all took copious notes on the numerous terms for various parts of the male and female anatomy, and were eager to try out new expressions like, “I’m walkin’ here!” and “Fuggedaboutit.”

In response to yesterday’s post about my funny wine bottle, here are the requested photos. Maybe she’s not sleeping like I previously thought, but she definitely has a tiny pair of dot-eyes.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. OMG. The English slang…. especially the last one you listed. Hilarious. The lounge looks so nice!

I’m disappointed the people on the wine bottle are drawings! I love all of your photos 🙂
